On June 24th 2006 a whole new chapter for Thurlow Spurr began. In a quaint little white chapel in
Gulf Shores, Alabama, about 100 intimate friends and relatives gathered to celebrate the beginning
of a whole new life. Thurlow Spurr and Kathey Gratz Andrews became Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow Spurr, and
along with Maddie Mae three people became one little family.
Kathey's husband of fifteen years, Dr. George Andrews, had recently slipped into the presence of his
Lord as a result of Alzheimers. Six years earlier the Doctor and Kathey had adopted a little baby,
whose birth mother had abandoned her less than 3 pound premature baby at a Tennessee hospital. The
doctors said there was no likelihood of the baby ever being normal, but Kathey never gave up and
lovingly night and day literally breathed life into that precious child, Maddie Mae. Today she is
an honor student, full of life, endless energy, constantly hiding God's word in her heart, and singing
and dancing and playing the piano with Mommy and Daddy proud as peacocks watching her win the hearts of everyone.
Kathey has a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Music Degree in vocal performance. She has been a featured
soloist in oratorios, operas, musicals and contemporary Christian music. She toured extensively throughout
the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Orient with the show group "Common Ground". While living in Nashville
she taught private vocal instruction and piano and conducted clinics in performance and acting. Kathey also
has directed church choirs as well as doing studio demo and jingle work. She as well taught voice at
the University of Mobile in Alabama.
Kathey is Co-producer of the new talent quest called I Want To Be A Star Search. Her constant contribution
to all that Thurlow undertakes simply enhances everything. Thurlow recently put it this way. "I was given
the best package deal ever. It's not often one man could be so abundantly blessed."
The Spurrs live in Orlando, Florida where Thurlow continues to represent Regal Marine Industries as he has for over 30 years.
